BATISMO!

Hello again everyone!!

Well, this week has been pretty incredible! Saturday we had the baptism of Lucas and Marcia, and it was honestly just such an incredibly spiritual service. I love these two people so much, and I'm so grateful to have been a part of their conversion to the gospel.

Besides the baptism, I don't really have a lot to tell. It was a pretty normal week of working, and teaching. We did do a pretty fun service project this week! We helped one of the older ladies in the ward finish her wall by gluing giant colorful napkins to it. Haha, sounds crazy, but it actually turned out really cool!

The scripture that I want to share this week is Alma 30:40-41. It's one of my favorites!!
"And now what evidence have ye that there is no God, or that Christ cometh not? I say unto you that ye have none, save it be your word only. But, behold, I have all things as a testimony that these things are true; and ye also have all things as a testimony unto you that they are true; and will ye deny them? Believest thou that these things are true?"

I love you all, and hope you have an incredible week!! Make sure to give a hug/phone call to my dear sweet mother who becomes one year older tomorrow! :)

Love,
 Sister Shelton
Sister Trindade and I with all of our medicines from the past transfer. Hahaha

Sister T. lost her badge walking home one day (we don't know how) and I found it the next day in a bunch of mud on the side of the road.

I thought it was solid ground, but when I took a step, it turned out to be mud. And lots of it.
Our napkin service project.
(don't mind the ankle... I promise I'm fine)

And with one of my favorite couples in the ward!!

This weeks letter from Sister Shelton

Hello!!

Wow, I can't believe it's already Monday again! This week sure flew by fast! It's been a great week though!

On Tuesday we had interviews with President Houseman, and like always, it was great! He seriously is just one of the most loving people I've ever met, and i'm super grateful to have him as a president!
And then on Friday we had a training at the mission office with President and Sister Houseman, and all the secretaries and assistants. It was my whole group that I arrived with, and our trainers. It was super great! I learned tons, and I got to see all of my friends from the CTM again!

One of the most difficult things about the week though has been our investigators. We have some super difficult investigators right now, and their baptism, which was supposed to be this past week, fell through. We've rescheduled it for this week though, so I have lots of hope for them! Keep Lucas and Marcia in your prayers!

The miracle of the week actually has to do with Lucas and Marcia. We were teaching them one night, and they were being super stubborn, and not wanting to commit to anything. And then, I started talking, but it wasn't me talking. The spirit was talking through me. Portuguese was not a problem, and I knew exactly what to say. But honestly, now, I can't remember what I said. I just remember the spirit being so strong! It was a very cool, and very powerful experience.

I love you all so very much, and I'm so very grateful for all you have done, and are doing for me!

Love, Sister Shelton

Scripture of the week: Ether 12:27 "And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble, and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."

Another week in Recife

Hello!

How is everyone?! I hope you're doing well, and staying safe during this crazy time in the world.

This has been another crazy week here in Rio Doce! We're slowly but surely all recovering from our many sicknesses here. Our apartment looks a little bit like a pharmacy with all our many medicines. We spent some more time in the hospital to do a cleaning of my ear, and then again on an emergency trip for Sister Trinidade's tooth. I'm pretty sure we're about to baptize a future prophet, because the adversary sure is working hard on us, and trying to keep us from working in our area. But it's good, and we're working hard despite everything happening. And we're seeing a lot of success because of it! Truly, nothing can stop the work of the Lord.

This Sunday was truly a miracle. We had 6 investigators at church! It was so great to have all of them there. Especially because I gave my first full 10 minute talk in Portuguese in Sacrament meeting, and it was a real support to look out and see all of our investigators that I love so much!

We've had some adventures this week! a couple of our investigators seem determined to make this difficult for us. We're pretty sure one of our investigators is only investigating the church for the benefit of money, and she's starting to disuade her son, who really does have a desire to be baptized. And then another investigator has a new boyfriend... if you know what I mean. But, we keep going, every day, and as long as we do everything we possibly can, I know we're doing what the Lord wants.

I love you all, and I'm so extremely grateful for the love and support I feel from each of you! Have a great week, and please, stay safe!

Love, Sister Shelton

Scripture of the Week: 2 Nephi 33:10    "...hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words, believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good."

Remember to read the Book of Mormon every day, because they really are the words of Christ!

Marks of a missionary! Watch and sandal tan. :)

At Alto de Se again!

The picture with the three of us is Sister
Karrington, Sister Trinidade, and I. Sister
Karrington is my "grandma" because she
trained Sister Trinidade, and now Sister Trinidade
is training me. So the picture is me-the baby, Sister
Trinidade- the mom, and Sister Karrington- the grandma!

Cada dia uma cosa...Something every day!

HELLLOOO!!!!

Bom dia todo mundo! How are you all? I hope you all had a great week!

This has been one of the most insane weeks of my entire mission! I think we spent more time in Recife than in our own area. But all is good!
Monday all the Sisters in my district went to Alto de Se again for a picnic lunch! It was so great! It honestly is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been in my life!

Tuesday Sister Trinidade and I went to the temple. President authorized us to go, to help Sister Trinidade during this difficult time since her Dad passed away. It was so great to be in the temple again! It really is the house of the Lord.

Wednesday we had a mission tour with Elder Costa, a member of the area presidency here in Brasil, and his wife. It was incredible!! They talked about so many things that really are helping me improve and be a better missionary! It was also really fun, because they sat by Sister Trinidade and I at lunch, and we were able to talk to them for a long time! After the mission conference, I received a blessing from President Houseman and Elder Costa, because I've had a lot of pain in my ear. It was literally the most powerful blessing I've ever received, and it brought a lot of comfort to me. Like I said though, I've had a lot of pain in my ear, and after the blessing, Sister Trinidade and I went to the hospital to get it checked out. The doctor told me that I have an ear infection, and possibly a problem with my wisdom teeth. WHAT?! He told me to go see a dentist, and that I'd probably have to get my wisdom teeth out. (because I didn't get them out before my mission, because I was told I don't need to worry about them.) But, Friday we went to another doctor, and after an examination, he said it's just an infection, and stress. Apparently I clench my jaw at night, and it's manifesting pain in my ear. Whew! It's much easier to fix a problem concerning stress than wisdom teeth. I was really scared for a while though!

I don't have a lot more time, so I hope that everything makes sense. It's been a crazy week, and a lot has happened, but the miracle of the week has been every single day. It's been hard, but I've received so much help!

Read Alma 57:12 this week! It's such a great scripture!!

With lot's and lot's of love (and a promise to send pictures next week)

My Last One

Happy Monday everyone!!! Well, I can't really believe it, but this is my last email before going home! I'll be in Recife next ...
